Money
Our currency is the Forint, which has 5, 10, 20, 50,100 and 200 forint coins, and banknotes for 200, 500, 1000, 2000, 5000, 10,000, and 20,000 forints.
Exchange and Money withdrawal
It is generally advisable to exchange your money at certified facilities such as exchange offices, banks, hotel receptions or travel agencies, which offer the best rates, as opposed to the airport or on the street (never an option!!!), which would not give you the appropriate rate.
- Banks are open from 8 am until 5 pm Monday to Thursday, and 8 am to 4 pm on Fridays.
- Some of the biggest banks in Hungary include OTP, K&H, CIB, and ERSTE.
- ATM’s operate 24 hours a day.
- The most popular credit and debit cards are Euro/Mastercard and VISA, whilst American Express is not accepted everywhere.
