Costs

As you probably know, Budapest is relatively more wallet-friendly when it comes to costs than many other European countries. To ensure that you are aware of the general prices, we have listed a few examples of costs that will help you prepare for your day or night out. Taking into consideration how the value of the euro and pound is consistently fluctuating, we will only offer you a general exchange rate – 1000 forints is roughly 3 pounds and euros momentarily, but make sure you check the current exchange rate!).

Restaurants:

They vary in cost like everywhere else. Beer is priced between 400-800 forints, soups from 600-1000 forints, second courses from 1500 to 4500, and shots from 500-1000 forints. Make sure you check the menu to make sure you are paying the right price.

Bars & clubs:

Like with restaurants, the prices differ from place to place, but it is safe to say that the price of the beer ranges between 500-800 forints, spirits are usually 700-1000 forints. Entry fees are asked only at selected places, and they can be anything from 500 forints to 2000 forints.

Strip bars:

It is generally known that strip bars have the highest prices when it comes to drinks, and you should be aware of the exact prices before going to one. Beers and spirits are usually 1500-2000 forints, and cocktails or mixed drinks such as Vodka & Redbull are between 1500 and 2500 forints.

Taxis:

It is very important to note that cabs are only inexpensive if ordered by phone. If you decide to hail one from the street, you are looking at 2 or 3 times extra charge than usual. By ordering one on the phone, the beginning price is 300 forints, and for a 5-10 minute journey, you should not be paying more than 3000 forints tops (usually 1000-1500 forints for about 5 minutes, 2000-2500 forints for 10-15 minutes).
